Backford, Mollington & Lea Villages

Welcome to the Backford and Mollington web site. The site for the parish of St Oswalds, Backford and its constituent villages of Mollington, Lea-by-Backford, Backford, Chorlton-by-Backford, and Caughall.

The parish is a relatively small community, with about 452 homes and a population of 1074 residents (all figures from 2011 Census). We are a rural community with 15 working farms, tree-lined lanes, and pleasant grass verges just some 5 minutes from the centre of Chester.

There are three independant local parish councils, Backford, Mollington, and Lea-by-Backford who on many issues work and pull together, all served by the ecclesiastical parish of St. Oswalds. The community is physically partitioned by the A41 Liverpool Road.

The area is well served by the motorway system being minutes from the M56 between Queensferry on the Welsh border and Manchester, the M53 to Birkenhead, and the A55 trunk road to North Wales.
